Tall Timbers Photos

Tallahassee, Florida, is never short of interesting places to find and explore. Just north of Tallahassee, we found this nature conservancy called Tall Timbers.

It's a well manicured site that is used for researching land conservation.  It has some very interesting old trees and buildings.  The long dirt driveway is lined with interesting live oak trees gently draped with Spanish Moss.  Sometimes I wish live oaks could talk.
Tallahassee has some of the world's greatest Live Oak trees.

Crab Traps near the Gulf of Mexico

Somewhere south of Tallahassee you can step far back in time to a more traditional way of life.  The watermen make there living in tune with the tides and the weather.  We spotted these crab traps somewhere in the salt marshes south of Tallahassee during in our coastal wanderings.

Hawk on a Lone Cypress Tree

Of course, you don't have to go far in North Florida to find interesting critters.  This hawk visited our Tallahassee apartment complex regularly.  Here he is perched in the center of the pond on a lone cypress tree.

This hawk actually does have quite the distinguished profile.  He should run for office . . . .

Tree on the Gulf of Mexico at St. Marks NWR

As I go through some old photo directories to see what treasures they hold, I'm reviving this blog.  We found this quiet place back in April of 2010.  Sometimes all you need is a shady tree right down by the Gulf of Mexico.  We found this one at St. Mark's NWR just south of Tallahassee, Florida. If you are looking for an undeveloped spot in Florida, this National Wildlife Refuge fits the bill perfectly.

Florida Big Bend Calendars for 2015

It's New Years Eve and it's time for a shameless plug of my own.  I took lots of pictures when I lived down in Florida. A couple of years ago, I collected some of my best and published them in calendars.  To ring in the New Year, I've republished my calendars for 2015.

If you are looking calendar that will look good on your wall, please check out my calendars here: GatorDude spotlight on Lulu.  My topics are the Forgotten Coast of Florida! It's a relatively undeveloped stretch of the Florida Panhandle.  You can preview my calendars below:

The Rusting Cars of Wakulla. It's a graveyard for vintage cars and trucks
from the 1950s near Crawfordville, Florida.

Finally, what trip to Florida would be complete without Alligators. I've got lots of my best alligator shots right here:

These calendars are a beautiful addition to any kitchen wall or office space. If you are a photographer, they'll also give you a chance to see what you can do with your own calendar project. This concludes my shameless plug! I hope you have a great New Year no matter how you keep track of it!

My Favorite Highway? US 98

If you are looking for a road to travel, check out US Highway 98 along Florida's Gulf Coast.  The stretch from St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge to Panama City is spectacular.  You'll often travel within yards of the Gulf of Mexico!

The Bobcat We Saw at St. Marks NWR

St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge must be one of the best places to see wildlife in the Southeastern United States.  We'll never forget April 29, 2010.  It was the evening when we saw our first bobcat at St. Marks NWR.  He was a long distance away, but I managed to grab this quick snapshot!
