My Favorite Highway? US 98

If you are looking for a road to travel, check out US Highway 98 along Florida's Gulf Coast.  The stretch from St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge to Panama City is spectacular.  You'll often travel within yards of the Gulf of Mexico!

The Bobcat We Saw at St. Marks NWR

St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge must be one of the best places to see wildlife in the Southeastern United States.  We'll never forget April 29, 2010.  It was the evening when we saw our first bobcat at St. Marks NWR.  He was a long distance away, but I managed to grab this quick snapshot!

O.K. I miss my swamp!

It's been awhile since we visited St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge.  We miss our swamp.  With the possibility of seeing alligators around each bend, every visit is an adventure.

The Blue Heron Nature Preserve in Atlanta

Can you find a little bit of swamp in the big city? You can if that city is Atlanta. The Blue Heron Nature Preserve is a great place to watch birds, hike a short trail, and enjoy a beautiful pond. To learn more about this little oasis, check out the home page: The Blue Heron Nature Preserve

Florida's Forgotten Coast Calendar

There's a sparsely populated stretch of Florida coastline that stretches from St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge to Mexico Beach, Florida, that is still beautiful and nearly pristine. It's called the Forgotten Coast. It's a place where you can see all manner of critters: alligators, bear, boar, bobcats, coyotes, deer, and more. If you are looking for a part of Florida that offers a real escape from civilization, it's your kind of place. We spent a couple of years there and took lots of pictures. Our best have ended up on this calendar. It's called Florida's Forgotten Coast Calendar - 2013:

Alligator Calendars for the New Year!

It's hard to believe that 2013 is already upon us.  As we set new goals for the year, it might be a good time to get a new calendar.  If you are interested in a calendar dedicated to the beauty of alligators, I have the perfect calendars for you.  You can see them all on my Author Spotlight page on Lulu.com:  Lee Spain's Photography

Cypress Trees

These cypress trees stand in the shallows of a lake near Wilmington, North Carolina.  They are beautiful, but a little far away.  In this late November shot, you can see that they are already bare.
